Coaching at Work: Who It Is For and How Sessions Go
Coaching at work is one-to-one work with Merve Tüfekçi for people at a threshold in their career or whose balance between work and themselves has slipped. A session starts from where you are now, makes the goal concrete and breaks the distance into steps. A series of six sessions is usually suggested; coaching is not a medical treatment.
Hello dear friends. 🌿 Today I would like to talk about coaching at work: who it is for, how a session goes and how you take the first step. In short, coaching at work is one-to-one work we do together when you are at a threshold in your career, or when the balance between work and yourself has slipped. In this post I explain who comes, how a session unfolds and how you can begin.
Do you feel a weight inside on the way to work on Monday morning? Has managing your team become tiring, or has a decision been waiting on your desk for weeks? At times like these it is precious to have someone beside you who asks questions. If you wish, we can look at it together.
Who is coaching at work for?
Coaching at work is for anyone who would like to look calmly at something to do with their working life. Among the people who come to me are:
- People in management roles
- People starting their own business
- People considering a change of career
- People who say the workload has made them lose themselves
The sector does not matter. The subject usually gathers in the same three places: not being able to decide, not being able to say no, and a sense of being spent. If one of these sounds familiar, you are not alone.
How does a coaching session go?
First we talk about where you are now. Then we make where you want to go as concrete as possible, because working on a vague goal is hard. The distance in between is broken into steps. Something that looked large now stands in front of you as steps you can take.
Say the workload is wearing you out. Then we look together at what tires you, where you cannot say no and where you would like to arrive. If you are considering a change of career, we follow the same path: where are you now, where do you want to go, what could the first step be?
Coaching is the work of asking questions, not of giving advice. The answers come from you; I carry the process. I do not make the decision for you; you decide where you are going. Alongside my ICF certified professional coaching training I also draw on NLP and energy work. We look together at which of them will serve you.
Is what you say in a coaching session confidential?
Everything said between us in a session stays confidential. Whatever you tell me about your work, your manager or your team does not leave our conversation. You can speak freely here about a decision you have not yet shared with anyone, such as a change of career. It is a place where you can say something out loud for the first time.
How many sessions, and where do we meet?
I usually suggest a series of six sessions. It is not a rule; in the first conversation we look at what you need and decide together. If managing your team has become tiring or you are facing a decision, telling me so in that first conversation is enough. We meet at Şifa Köyü (Healing Farm) in Şile, on Istanbul’s Asian side, or online if you prefer. Either way the session is one to one and runs in the same way. Şifa Köyü is our farm, where the produce we grow from heirloom seeds holds EU-approved organic farming certification. Stepping out of the office and talking in nature sometimes changes the questions too. I coach in English or Turkish. Write to us and we will plan a short first conversation; we will talk about the day, the time and the fee then.
Coaching is not a medical treatment. I do not diagnose; we look together at your goals, your options and the steps you will take. If a sense of being spent has turned into a health concern, please talk to your doctor.
Which question about your work are you avoiding asking yourself today? If you are ready to ask it together, I am here. May your work bring you peace. With love. 💛
